Music at Northwood

Choir Membership and Rehearsal Schedule

The adult choir is open to men and women, ages sixteen and above. A simple audition is necessary for joining, but music reading ability is not demanded (just a good ear and pitch control). Currently, we use a two-rehearsal system. The larger rehearsal is on Wednesday nights, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. The second rehearsal is on Sundays from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. Special rehearsals are added as we draw near to major productions and special events.

Praise Band and orchestra

The praise band plays for every service, while orchestra instrumentalists focus on the main Sunday service and special productions. Guitarists, percussionists, and keyboard players who are interested in joining should contact Minister of Music,  Buck Hodge. Orchestra coordination in done by Sarah Williams. Praise songs and anthems are all written for full orchestra, so we are always looking for interested players.

Praise Teams

Rotating praise teams, composed of choir members, help spearhead worship. These individuals put in extra hours of rehearsal in order to make sure the worship songs are sung at their best.

Children’s Music—Children's Chorus

Children in grades K-6th meet weekly for choral training with Sarah Williams who uses the Kodály method,  to teach singing and music reading. Meeting on Wednesday nights from 6:00-6:50 in the adult choir room, children are taught singing, ear training, and part singing with a variety of music styles in Christian music.
Rehearsals focus on reading, singing and games offering a choral music education with a fun exposure to the “Arts”. Community children are welcome and encouraged to participate. Children sing occasionally in services as well as in the Christmas and Easter productions. For information, contact Sarah Williams, children’s choir director, at
